Innovation Awards
We are on a continuous quest for new opportunities and extraordinary solutions. We are proud that our efforts have been rewarded and recognized as visionary, as well as feasible transport solutions.
Trailer Innovation 2023
1st place in ‘Component’ category with in-house developed Container Locker System
  • Van Eck designed, tested, and finalized a most practical, flexible low-cost device, the Container Locker System that addresses partial loading, load security problems, and their subsequent cost, time, and operational health and safety results.
  • When partially loaded roll containers are not secured and move freely within the trailer knocking on each other and side panels, they damage goods loaded in the roll containers, damage the side walls without risk to road safety, they damage the roll containers themselves. The damages result in, operational inefficiency and extra costs of goods replacement, repair costs of the trailers as well as declining second-hand value, and replacement cost of damaged roll containers.
  • The Container Locker System is made of light and durable aluminum, and has 800 mm in length and 100 mm x 100 mm (width x depth), and weighs 3 kg each. The Container Locker System consists of 2 units of telescopic rods, in combination with a square beam that secures the roll container blocks by less than 10. The maximum amount of roll containers for a box trailer is 44. Van Eck’s Container Locker System works even for 43 roll containers.

Trailer Innovation 2021
3rd Place in Environment Category with Smart rollerbed with NMLU
  • NMLU (New Modular Loading Unit) is the new element between the trailer and pallet, developed with Van Eck team included group effort supported by H2020 project 2.0.
  • The NMLU concept via standardized loading units that operates on rollerbed vehicles has operational efficiency benefits up to 50% and load capacity efficiencies of average 20%, distributed along with the players of the logistics systems.

Trailer Innovation 2011
2nd Place in Body Category with Eckspressive 7 Trailer for Air Cargo
  • The Eckspressive 7 is a gooseneck mega semi-trailer with a height of 3.250 mm behind the gooseneck.
  • The Eckspressive 7 is especially suited for the transport of lower deck pallets in combination with main deck pallets and jumbo pallets.
  • The semi-trailer is fitted with three hydraulically adjustable intermediate floors and an automatic loading and unloading system. This makes it possible to transport 7 air cargo pallets in a single vehicle.
  • Equipped with three independently adjustable intermediate floors, the vehicle can also accommodate 4 main deck pallets or jumbo pallets with a main deck pallet of up to 2.780 mm in height placed on the gooseneck. This makes the vehicle multifunctional, giving the carrier the freedom to decide whether 4, 5, 6, or 7 air cargo pallets need to be transported per trip.
  • Thanks to an increase in volume of 43%, fewer trips are required to transport the same load, generating considerable savings in terms of labour, toll and fuel. The latter also results in a 43% reduction in CO2 emissions.

ATC 2009
Innovation Award with Ecksclusive Foam Trailer Combination
  • Van Eck has been developing and producing vehicles for the transport of polyether foam since 1969. Based on a single press system, the first version increased the volume to be transported by 80%.
  • In 2009, we have now introduced Ecksclusive Foam Trailer Combination which can transport 360% more, whereby the press system is also greatly simplified.
  • With this vehicle, the carrier can transport 9 pieces of foam blocks of 1,200 mm in height.
  • The total number of foam blocks to be loaded strongly depends on the length of the blocks. With a length of 2,400 mm and a height of 1,200 mm per foam block, a total of 54 foam blocks can be loaded.
  • This vehicle ensures that the load is reduced by 76% by means of a hydraulic double press system combined with a hydraulically movable intermediate floor and a hydraulically movable roof. So only 24% of the original volume remains.

Trailer Innovation 2005
3rd Place with Twin Deck vehicles
  • Originally unveiled at the 2003 European Road Transport Show, Van Eck presented a new version of the Eckstreme Series in 2005 with a higher capacity, with up to 55 euro pallets (+ 4%) with a loading height of 1,800 mm.
  • Furthermore, the new model is launched with a double internal and external lift mechanism which can be either individually or simultaneously operated.
  • The smaller external lift, combined with a set of rear doors and an upper door-wide flap, makes it possible for the to be manoeuvred against a universal loading dock and for the dock-shelter to be fully sealed so that it is wind-tight.
  • This innovative solution has made it possible to dock the twin deck with no risk of a draught entering between the trailer and the loading platform. The combined lift system speeds up the loading and unloading process.

Our Innovation Partners
We value innovation as the cornerstone of our continuous quest for new opportunities and extraordinary solutions. We innovate for vehicle safety and ecological compatibility to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers and ourselves.

Accordingly, we are part of initiatives in advancing road transportation vehicles and systems, such as Aeroflex and Transformers Project that are sponsored by European Commission, and Clusters 2.0 that helps in improvement of semi-trailer technology and cutting out CO2 emission.

We cooperate and co-develop for the next generational road vehicles in align with sustainability and carbon neutrality targets.
Configurable and Adaptable Trucks and Trailers for Optimal Transport Efficiency
  • As a member of international consortium in the EU Research Project, Transformers, Van Eck designed load-optimized trailer that features an electric roof height adjuster, a load volume sensor and a double floor system.
  • If the maximum permissible mass of the trailer is reached without its volume being fully utilized, the roof can be lowered to reduce the aerodynamic drag.

Aerodynamic and Flexible Trucks for Next Generation of Long Distance Road Transport
  • The vision of the Aeroflex project is to support vehicle manufacturers and the logistics industry to achieve the coming challenges for road transport.
  • Aeroflex will develop and demonstrate new technologies, concepts and architectures for complete vehicles with optimised aerodynamics, powertrains and safety systems as well as flexible and adaptable loading units with advanced interconnectedness contributing to the vision of a “physical internet.”
  • Van Eck developed 2 prototypes for Aeroflex.
  • The first prototype is an advanced version of the Transformers vehicle. With further development the vehicle is not suitable for intermodal transport as well as can be part of an A-Double, Van Eck super eco combi or two trailers LHV combination.
  • Second one is the first E dolly, a dolly with electro motor that can recuperate braking energy and can feed it back to the vehicle.
  • Field tests are in progress with a potential of saving up to 15 per cent in CO2 emissions.

Leveraging the potential of European Logistics Clusters
  • Clusters 2.0 is a Horizon 2020 project leveraging the potential of European Logistics Clusters for a sustainable, efficient and fully integrated transport system.
  • It relies on an Open Network of Logistics Clusters operating in the frame of Ten-T and supporting local, regional and European development, while keeping neutral the local impacts such as congestion, noise, land use and local pollution levels.
  • Van Eck is a member of Clusters 2.0, working on the New Modular Load Unit (NMLU).
